Love, Friendship & Betrayal: Modern Relationships Among Gen Z
In the era of DMs, ghosting, and “soft life,” young Namibians are redefining what love and friendship mean. Technology has made connection easier, but also more complicated.
Many relationships begin on social media but end in unread messages. “We meet online, vibe for a few weeks, then one person just disappears,” laughs Alicia, 19. “Ghosting has become normal.”
Yet, hope remains. “Even with heartbreaks, we’re still learning,” says Ndeshipewa, 23, a student from NUST. “Our generation wants love that’s real, not just online.”
A UNAM sociology study found that 60% of Namibian youth say “trust” is the biggest challenge in modern relationships. Between busy schedules, peer pressure, and the search for “the one,” friendships and romances are constantly tested.
